Moscow, February 22 – The acting head of the governor of the Kherson region, Vladimir Saldo, told the News Agency that he expects the return of the regional center – Kherson this year, and then, in his opinion, Nikolaev and Odessa will also be taken.
“First we will take Kherson, then Nikolaev, then Odessa, but soon – this year,” said Saldo.
The Kherson region became a constituent entity of the Russian Federation on September 30, 2022, following a referendum held there. At the same time, the Ukrainian side does not recognize its legitimacy and continues to bomb the territory of the region. Today, 75% of the territory of the Kherson region is under the control of Russia, and the right-bank part, including the regional center, the city of Kherson, is still under the control of Ukrainian forces.
Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24. President Vladimir Putin described his goal as “protecting people who have been bullied and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.” And for this, according to him, it is planned to carry out the “demilitarization and demilitarization of Ukraine”, to bring to justice all the war criminals responsible for “bloody crimes against civilians” in Donbass.
