The common weight loss potions used by both Kim Kardashian and Elon Musk are said to be poorly used by thin people, including those with eating disorders.
Anorexia and bulimia sufferers are turning to unscrupulous sellers on sites like eBay and Instagram to buy Wegovy and Ozempic, experts told The Mail on Sunday.
These are slightly different versions of the new drug semaglutide, which is a powerful appetite suppressant.
Semaglutide was approved for use by the NHS in March, but only for those who are obese (Wegovy) or have type 2 diabetes (Ozempic).
But experts say thin people, including those with serious eating disorders, get them without a safety check.
“I get a lot of personal messages (on social media) from people telling me they can get Wegovy even though they have an eating disorder and a healthy BMI,” said Ruth Micallef, an eating disorder consultant at Edinburgh.
Rummel Patel, owner of Farmeci.com, said fast money operators, including gym trainers, were selling them illegally.
“It’s like the Wild West,” he said, adding that patients who are turned down at the pharmacy simply buy it elsewhere.
