Finnish President Sauli Niinistö has announced that Turkey will support Helsinki’s bid to join NATO this week.
“I’m sure they will move forward. Maybe this week,” Niinistö said in an interview with Swedish Radio.
Last Monday, the Hungarian parliament approved Finland’s entry into the alliance, while Turkey remained.
Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that Finland’s decision to join NATO is unbalanced and will have negative consequences for the security and military-political situation in the region.
