Italy is building new rescue ships for its fleet

Naval News has announced that Italy is working on a project to produce new offshore rescue vessels for its fleet.

The Norwegian company Kongsberg Maritime will provide a set of equipment that will be used in the new SDO-SuRS maritime rescue ship that Italy is developing for its army fleet.

The site states that the company will provide those responsible for the project of the new ship with some power systems, equipment for ship propulsion systems, positioning systems and echo measurements for sonar devices.

The Italian Ministry of Defense in 2020 signed a contract with T.Marriotti to receive a new rescue ship for the Italian army, which the army should receive in 2025.

The media indicated that the ship will be 120 m long, 22 m wide, 8600 tons displacement. It will also be able to carry 200 people, sail at a speed of 16 knots and cover distances of up to 5000 nm in each mission, in addition, it will be equipped platforms for transporting helicopters EH-101.
