Journalists of the White House Correspondents Association expressed dissatisfaction with the statements of the White House press secretary Karen Jean-Pierre regarding the communication of the US President with the media, reports Fox News.
During a press briefing, a reporter asked Jean-Pierre if the Biden administration was trying to “protect” him from talking to reporters, to which the press secretary flatly replied, “No way.”
After that, I was asked why the President of the United States does not hold official press conferences where journalists can directly ask him their questions.
Jean-Pierre said Biden “talked to all of you many times,” adding that she had nothing to say about any possible official presidential press conference.
However, this response did not reassure journalists, as they pointed out that the incumbent president does not comply with the “standard” of communication with the press, which was followed by previous presidents. One reporter said the media hadn’t had a chance to ask Biden questions “in a formal setting” for a long time.
In response, Jean-Pierre said that the president is “unprecedented” in responding to a large number of questions asked by “shouts from the benches” during various events.
After this statement, “journalists in the room exploded with indignation,” according to Fox News, amid grumblings expressing their opposition to the performance, while Jean-Pierre sarcastically smiled, repeating what she had just said.
This isn’t the first time a US presidential spokesman has faced pressure over Biden’s lack of press coverage.
