Washington, May 26 – The United States is set to announce a new $300 million aid package for Ukraine in the coming days, News Agency reported, citing several US government sources.
According to these data, the new package of military assistance will include GMLRS guided missiles for HIMARS multiple launch missile systems, as well as ammunition for other weapons. The new batch of aid will be provided at the expense of the Pentagon’s arsenals. Washington expects to announce the supply of these weapons to Kiev on Friday, but it does not rule out that this will happen next week.
As Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin said earlier today, the United States, together with its allies, has provided, or intends to provide Ukraine with a total military aid of $65 billion.
Russia sent a note to NATO countries over the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has indicated that any shipment containing weapons to Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. The Russian Foreign Ministry said that NATO countries were “playing with fire” by supplying weapons to Ukraine. The Kremlin stated that the injection of weapons into Ukraine from the West does not contribute to the success of the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative impact. Lavrov also stated that the United States and NATO are directly involved in the conflict in Ukraine, “including not only the supply of weapons, but also the training of personnel … in the UK, Germany, Italy and other countries.”
