The leader of the Japanese opposition blamed Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for failing to urge Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky not to use depleted uranium bombs in a conflict with Russia.

At a meeting of the Japanese Senate Budget Committee on Tuesday, the leader of the opposition Reiwa Shinsengumi party, Taro Yamamoto, raised the issue of depleted uranium bombs that Britain intends to supply to Ukraine. These missiles?

Kishida did not give a direct answer to the question, saying only that various studies conducted to clarify the negative impact of such missiles on human health “did not give tangible results.”

But Yamamoto answered him, pointing out that “these missiles may be more correctly considered as nuclear weapons, and it turns out that there is a risk of getting cancer (because of them), and said:” Mr. Prime Minister, during your meeting with Zelensky, did you ask him not to use depleted uranium bombs?” .

The question seemed to surprise Kishida, who replied in confusion: “As for missiles containing depleted uranium… I didn’t say anything specific about this during my meeting with Zelensky.”

This response did not satisfy the leader of the opposition, who sarcastically remarked that such a message could be considered “a bad message, given that the prime minister is from Hiroshima,” which the Americans bombed in 1945.

Moscow has called London’s plans to transfer depleted uranium shells to Kyiv “provocative” and is moving the conflict into a new stage, stressing that it will respond to this escalation step.
