US media reported that the White House will hold secret talks in Washington next week with Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu and National Security Adviser Wellington Koo.
The Financial Times, citing informed sources, said that this was a private diplomatic dialogue that would be closed so as not to provoke an angry reaction from China.
According to the report, the Taiwanese delegation will arrive in Washington at the end of the week and meet with Deputy National Security Adviser John Fenner next week.
US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman will probably take part in the meeting.
This meeting coincides with a new aggravation of relations between Washington and Beijing due to a Chinese balloon that flew into US airspace, was intercepted and dropped over the Atlantic Ocean.
