The South Korean military said Thursday that North Korea had fired a short-range ballistic missile towards the Yellow Sea.
A statement from the Joint Chiefs of Staff said it observed the launch from the western coastal city of Nampo to the north at 6:20 p.m., without providing further details.
“Through increased surveillance and vigilance, our military forces maintain a state of full readiness in close cooperation with the United States,” she added.
The latest launch comes as Seoul and Washington prepare to launch the Freedom Shield exercise scheduled for Monday through March 23. It is planned that the exercises will continue in conjunction with large-scale field exercises called “Shield Warrior”.
