Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the decision of the dissident Orthodox Church in Ukraine to abandon the Orthodox calendar and switch to the Western calendar as a pagan move.

Peskov added in a TV interview: “The Russian language defines these Ukrainian church activities as pagan and barbaric, and what is happening is madness itself. Let’s wait until they announce the abolition of the Ukrainian language and replace it with English or American.”

And the Ukrainian agency TSN previously reported, citing informed sources, that the participants in the meeting of the Bishops’ Conference decided to adopt a new church calendar, postponing the date of the celebration of the Nativity of Christ to December 25, that is, according to the Western calendar.
