Extremist Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir accused demonstrators against the government’s plan to “reform the judiciary” of plotting to kill him, while police said they had no information on the matter.

Ben Gvir said in a statement to Israeli Public Radio today, Monday, that he has intelligence that demonstrators are planning to kill him and Sarah, the wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, adding: “They are talking about it out loud.”

Police officials said in response to Ben Gvir’s remarks that they “are not aware of any intelligence indicating death threats by demonstrators against the minister.”

For the ninth consecutive week, more than 250,000 Israelis demonstrated in Tel Aviv and other cities on Saturday night to protest the plan, which is currently before the Knesset, as the Supreme Court strips itself of much of its power to challenge the government’s decision, and according to the plan also the government will supervise the committee. The opposition sees the appointment of judges as a “coup” and the end of democracy, and Netanyahu says the plan is aimed at restoring the balance between power.
