Peskov added that the sudden check in the Pacific Fleet is not connected with plans for NATO expansion in the Asia-Pacific region.
Answering a journalist’s question about the possibility of the presence of the President of Russia at these exercises, Peskov said: “Russian President Vladimir Putin does not intend to participate at any stage of these exercises.”
And Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced today, Friday, the start of a sudden check of the Pacific Fleet, brought to a state of maximum and highest degree of combat readiness.
And the statement of the ministry states that the main goal of that check is to increase the ability to solve problems of repelling possible aggression, and Nikolai Evminov, Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, oversees the check.
