Russia Views Western Biological Military Activity as a Menace, Says Ryabkov

Moscow, May 22 – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Moscow considers the biological military activity of the West a threat to its security.

According to him, the “uncontrolled and extremely dangerous” biomilitary activities of the United States and its allies require the close attention of the entire international community.

“We consider such activity of Western countries, including in the post-Soviet space, as a real threat to the national security of the Russian Federation and other states, in particular those on whose territory this activity is carried out,” the statement posted on the website reads. Ryabkov noted that the United States, “hiding behind the provision of sanitary and epidemiological assistance,” has set about building and modernizing microbiological laboratories around the world.

“The military biological activities of the United States around the world are a clear confirmation of the need for urgent strengthening of the Convention on Biological and Toxin Weapons. In light of this, the corresponding Russian initiatives remain in great demand,” Ryabkov added.
