German Chancellor Olaf Scholz welcomed the issuance of an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

This became known during a joint press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

On Friday, the International Criminal Court’s Pre-Trial Chamber issued an “arrest warrant” for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova Belova.

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russia does not recognize the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, and any decisions it makes are void and unacceptable from a legal point of view.

For her part, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, confirmed that the decision of the International Criminal Court to issue a warrant for the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin has no significance for Russia.

Zakharova wrote in her Telegram account: “The decisions of the International Criminal Court are meaningless for our country, including from a legal point of view.”
