On Wednesday morning, the German authorities launched a massive campaign of raids in the states of Berlin and Saxony-Anhalt against human smuggling gangs.
A police spokesman said more than 20 homes and offices were raided, mostly in Berlin.
He added that five people had been arrested, four of them in Berlin and one in Halle.
The spokesman said that a total of 18 suspects were under investigation for human smuggling from Turkey and Iraq to Germany.
According to the data, 400 employees of the federal police and the Berlin police, as well as special forces “GSG 9” participated in the campaign.
