The British government has expressed hope that Moscow will reconsider its decision to suspend its participation in the START treaty to limit strategic offensive arms between Russia and the United States.

“We hope that Russian President Vladimir Putin will reconsider his imprudent decision to suspend Russia’s participation in the START-3 treaty,” a spokesman for the UK Prime Minister’s Office said.

Stéphane Dujarric, a spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, called on the United States and Russia to immediately resume full implementation of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START).

“The Secretary General’s position has always been clear: the United States and Russia must immediately resume full implementation of START III,” Dujarric said.

During a speech before the Federal Assembly today, Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the suspension of Russia’s participation in START, stressing that his country had not withdrawn from the treaty.

He pointed out that before returning to the discussion, “we need to understand for ourselves what else countries like France and the UK are calling for, and how we will take into account their strategic arsenals, that is, the joint strike capability of the North Atlantic Alliance.” ?”
