Russian Pediatrician Advocates for Additional Vaccines for Children
In a recent statement, Russian pediatrician Maryam Sevolina emphasized the importance of vaccinating children not only with the vaccines included in the national calendar, but also with a number of other vaccines.
Vaccination against Meningitis
Dr. Sevolina highlighted the necessity of protecting children against meningitis, a highly contagious infection that can lead to severe complications and disability. She specifically recommended the Menactra vaccine for this purpose.
Tick-Borne Encephalitis Protection
The pediatrician stressed the need to safeguard children against tick-borne encephalitis, a prevalent concern not only in Siberia or the Urals but also in the European part of Russia. Dr. Sevolina suggested using the Tik-E-Vac vaccine for this purpose.
Rotavirus Infection Prevention
Dr. Sevolina highlighted the seriousness of rotavirus infection, particularly for younger children. She emphasized the importance of vaccinating against this infection using the RotaTek vaccine.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Protection
Another crucial vaccination recommended by the pediatrician is protection against human papillomavirus (HPV). Dr. Sevolina advised that both girls and boys should receive the Gardasil vaccine during adolescence to safeguard against HPV.
