The United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Thor Winsland, condemned the attacks by new settlers in the West Bank town of Huwara, calling Israel to account.

“I am deeply concerned about the ongoing violence and horrific attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinians two days ago in Hawar near Nablus. Israel, as the occupying power, must ensure the protection of the civilian population and bring those responsible to justice.” This is stated in the statement of Winsland.

He added: “I condemn settler violence against Palestinians. I condemn Palestinian attacks against Israelis,” stressing that “all civilians must be protected from violence. We are in the middle of a cycle of violence that must be stopped immediately.”

Wensland expressed dismay at the Israeli army’s raid on the West Bank city of Jenin, stressing that “the commitments made in Aqaba in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan must be kept if we are to find a way forward,” referring to the summit meeting. last month between Israel and Jordanian and Palestinian Authority officials to reduce tensions.

“The parties must refrain from taking further steps that could lead us to more violence,” he said.
