Moscow, February 22 – State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that the situation in which the State Duma will consider suspending the START Treaty is a consequence of US foreign policy.
“Today the State Duma will consider the initiative of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin” on the Russian Federation’s suspension of the treaty concluded between Russia and the United States on measures to further reduce and limit strategic offensive weapons “… The current situation is the result of Washington’s foreign policy,” Volodin wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to him, by ceasing to comply with its obligations and rejecting Russia’s proposals on global security issues, the United States “destroyed the structure of international stability” and also plunged the world into “a state of conflicts and challenges.”
The parliamentarian continued that with regard to the security of the country and citizens, a conversation with Russia in the language of ultimatums is unacceptable.
Volodin also noted that members of the US Congress need to be aware of the situation “that arose through the fault” of US President Joe Biden, as well as its possible consequences.
