Nizhny Novgorod, March 23 – Vapes and any other devices for inhaling smoking mixtures are not harmful, Valery Tarasov, the chief independent psychiatrist and narcologist of the Ministry of Health of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, told the News Agency.
State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin on Thursday asked Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to support a ban on vaping, stressing the need to save children. Mishustin promised to consider this and form the position of the Council of Ministers.
“The device with smoking mixtures – vapes, that is, other devices for inhalation – is unsafe. There is no harm here – if they inhale, it means that something has settled in the lungs,” said Tarasov.
According to the drug scientist, the composition of smoking liquids, which are used in electronic cigarettes and vaporizers, includes unsafe synthetic fillers. These fumes can lead to a sore throat. Also, liquid smokers may suffer from chronic lung disease.

“Young people think that everything is safe, and only over the years you begin to understand that this is not the case … The problem must be seriously resolved. But this is a legal issue, not a medical one. And any prohibition is not so simple and takes time, ”Tarasov believes.
In his opinion, it is necessary to differentiate between the substances that make up smoking mixtures and, if necessary, add them to the list of narcotic or potent substances. This money is already restricted by existing laws. Other substance use can be limited, as with tobacco smoking.
According to the press service of the regional government, experts from the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Pharmaceutical Dispensary agree that the assurances of manufacturers of vapes and smoking liquids about the safety of inhaling vapors when smoking should be questioned. According to the chief psychiatrist and self-employed child psychologist of the Ministry of Health of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Alexey Nelidov, toxic substances released during the vaporization of smoking liquids can lead to exacerbation of asthma, pneumonia and various cardiovascular diseases, especially in children and adolescents. In addition, nicotine, which is also present in smoking fluids and is often unnatural, but chemical in origin, does not carry anything useful and is addictive.
The chief physician of the Center for Public Health and Medical Prevention in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Natalya Savitskaya, indicated that smoking electronic cigarettes and other vaporizing devices increases blood pressure, and increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes. In addition, the doctor stressed that there are no safe forms of smoking. And the effect of vaping on health will be negative, primarily due to the presence of artificial flavors and ingredients in the composition of smoking liquids.
