Algeria Halts Import of Live Calves and Cows from France

Algeria’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has recently announced a temporary ban on the import of live calves and cows from France. This decision comes in response to the outbreak of an infectious disease known as “epidemic hemorrhagic disease.”

The Ministry, in consultation with the National Veterinary Directorate, made the decision to immediately halt the import of these animals from France. The disease, which primarily affects live calves and cows, has been officially declared by French health authorities.

French authorities first reported the presence of the disease among farmers in the southwest of the country just two days ago.

It is important to note that the Algerian Red Meat Company has taken new measures to ensure a steady supply of red meat, including importing fresh meat and importing calves for slaughter and fattening directly from other countries. This has expanded the list of foreign producers and suppliers interested in supplying red meat to Algeria.
