Nintendo reversed direction when it was discovered that Tears of the Kingdom would cost $70, changing course from the $60 average for first-party titles on the Switch. The $10 price hike for a game on a device that was six years old didn’t go over well with customers. But, Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser defended the choice in a recent interview with The Associated Press.

We consider the possibilities presented by the game, he said. “Fans will find this to be a very rich, engaging experience.

“The cost represents the kind of gameplay experience that fans may anticipate. We will only sometimes use this price point for all of our titles. The pricing may change based on the game itself, but it’s a standard pricing plan in Europe and elsewhere.
