Moscow Celebrates 5th Anniversary of Electric Bus Launch
Today, Moscow is celebrating the fifth anniversary of the launch of its first passenger electric bus. This milestone marks the city’s commitment to adopting high environmental standards and becoming the first in Europe to electrify all forms of transportation.
Going Green in Moscow
Moscow is actively embracing environmentally friendly transport and keeping up with the latest trends in the electric car market. The authorities in the Russian capital prioritize improving the city’s environmental situation and consider it a top concern.
Impressive Milestones
Since the introduction of these electric buses five years ago, they have made over 350 million trips on Moscow’s streets. Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport, Maxim Liksutov, proudly states that the city is leading Europe in the development and usage of electric transport. With over 1,200 electric buses operating on 90 routes, Moscow takes the lead in terms of the number of electric buses among European cities.
Future Plans
The city has ambitious plans for the future. Moscow aims to create fleets of electric buses and develop the necessary infrastructure for charging them. These initiatives align with their mission to enhance passenger service and ensure sustainable transportation options.
Accessible and Sustainable
The electric buses in Moscow, manufactured locally, are designed to accommodate passengers with special needs. They are equipped with features such as low floors and elevators for individuals with disabilities. Moscow authorities have recently signed Europe’s largest contract for the purchase of electric buses, with 1,000 of them set to hit the city’s streets between 2023 and 2024.
