Economic expert Maxim Gubka said today, Friday, that the price of onion in Ukraine has increased by about three times over the year, amid expectations that the price of the product will increase by another 30% in the near future.

According to the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, the price of a kilogram of onion today is 52 hryvnia ($1.4), while in March last year it could be bought for 16.75 hryvnia (45 cents).

“Onion prices will rise and this trend will continue until May next year. Imports have grown 2.5 times over the past two months, so we expect another 30 percent growth for this product,” Gupka told Rada TV.

Earlier, the head of the All-Ukrainian Association of Bakers, Yuriy Dudchenko, announced an increase in bread prices in the country by 10 percent.
