The Solar Opposites: A Helpful Cast and Character Guide
The Solar Opposites will soon make their long-awaited return to Hulu, where they will attempt to fill the void Rick and Morty left in our lives. Even though an eon has passed since the last season, we saw the oddball family from Planet Shlorp in July 2022. They were getting into various types of dark comedy high jinks, which is exactly what you would anticipate from an adult animated sitcom about aliens adjusting to life on Earth. People new to the realm of mature animated comedies and longtime lovers of adult animation decided to check out the show almost immediately after it debuted on Hulu and became an instant smash. Before the start of Solar Opposites Season 4 on Monday, August 14, 2023, here is a helpful cast and character guide to get a grasp on who’s who before the big changes that have occurred behind the scenes of the fourth season.
Dan Stevens as Korvo
As the “straight man” of the group and the one whose voice you hear in the narration, Korvo is perhaps the ensemble cast’s best candidate for the main character role because he provides the voice you hear in the narration. After a meteor destroyed their home planet of Shlorp, Korvo, his partner Terry, and their two replicants fled the world in search of a new home. The crew is forced to readjust to their new environment after they are forced to land on Earth. Despite this, Korvo, unlike his mate Terry, is not particularly pleased about his family’s crash landing on the floating rock that humans call home. He considers Earth a backward planet and the people living there to be much more backward.
Still, even Korvo can’t help but fall for the exoticism of Earth’s traditions occasionally, such as when he fell in love with the Earth-based children’s show Funbucket. Despite this, Korvo has not wavered much in his determination to get himself and his family off the planet and into new horizons, preferably on another globe that will not be destroyed and/or will not be annoying. Up to the fourth season, Justin Roiland, one of the show’s co-creators, provided the voice of Korvo. The allegations of domestic violence against Roiland became public, which resulted in the creative being fired from the show. The legendary Dan Stevens takes over the role of Korvo as narrator beginning with Season 5. The well-known Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts and other titles, such as Netflix’s The Sea Beast, are only two examples of Stevens’ earlier work in voice acting.
Thomas Middleditch as Terry
Thomas Middleditch is well-known for playing brilliant characters, such as he did in Silicon Valley; hence, his depiction of a complete moron in Solar Opposites feels like a welcome change of pace from his typical roles. It has always appeared that the exact nature of Terry’s relationship with Korvo was intended to be obscured. Are they just friends, are they married, are they in any sexual connection, or is their relationship purely spiritual? In any event, their partners and Terry’s contribution to Korvo’s intelligence is to be an expert on the Pupa. This creature resembles a newborn tadpole and is the group’s responsibility. Unfortunately, Terry confesses to cheating in most of his classes on Pupa science, and he is approximately as stupid about the Pupa as the rest of the population.
Terry has become very used to life on Earth, as indicated by the fact that the graphic t-shirts he wears change with each episode and that his pajamas are patterned after Star Wars’ Poe Dameron character. In contrast, Korvo spends practically all his time looking for methods to escape the planet. Even though he and Korvo share a romantic relationship, Terry tends to take a more laid-back approach regarding the upbringing of the two replicants and the Pupa than Korvo does.
Sean Giambrone as Yumyulack
Sean Giambrone, star of The Goldbergs, plays the role of the young replicant who tries to emulate Korvo. Yumyulack is a borderline sociopath who constantly thinks of new weapons to construct and utilize surrounding humans as test subjects. Even though he and his fellow replicant are required to attend school and act like human children, Yumyulack is a borderline sociopath. He even shrunk some humans to the size of a mouse and hid them in a complex wall where the replicants were kept. Ultimately, he concluded that he would only reduce in size those deserving of being imprisoned. To make matters worse, he had unintentionally established a vicious society within the wall at that time. A little bit more on that is coming up. Yumyulack may be a miserable person with a callous contempt for human life. Despite this, he continues to place significant importance on his family, particularly his sister Jesse.
Mary Mack as Jesse
Jesse, the replicant of Terry that Mary Mack brings to life, adapts to Earth in the same lightning-fast manner as Terry did. Jesse is not quite as thick-headed as Terry, but she retains some youthful naivety. There is a strong hint that she desires to be accepted by humans, even though most people dislike her and her family. Despite bullies and teachers victimizing her, Jesse can keep an optimistic attitude. She is not one to let adversity or frightening situations dampen her spirit. Jesse has an even more playful and carefree disposition than the Pupa, which is particularly remarkable when one considers the sinister role that the Pupa is destined to play in the world.
Sagan McMahan as The Pupa
Although the Pupa may appear to be an innocent and lovable little mascot for the show, his function in the story can alter the course of history on Earth. In contrast to the other members of the Solar Opposites, the Pupa is not a Shlorpian. However, Yumyulack claims that his DNA holds the complete history of Planet Shlorp, which was lost when the planet was destroyed. There is a huge catch to this. When the Pupa has reached its full maturity, it will devour the planet Earth and remake it in its image as if it were a Shlorp. The appearance of the Pupa shifts and develops with each passing season, which indicates that it is continuing to get closer and closer to whatever is believed to be its ultimate fate. Even though Terry is claimed to be an expert on the species, the Solar Opposites only know a little about the Pupa and have been wrong about him. This is the case even though all of this information has been presented. Of course, as we wait for the Pupa to undergo its cataclysmic transition, the character has provided many of the show’s most memorable moments to keep us entertained.
Tiffany Haddish as Aisha
Tiffany Haddish, star of “The Afterparty,” gives her voice to the artificial intelligence (AI) aboard the family ship as Aisha. Haddish is not a series regular. Aisha is not a helpful and all-powerful cybernetic entity; rather, she is extraordinarily caustic and engages in passive hostile behavior. She is almost always making fun of the Solar Opposites and making light of the fact that they are completely inept. Regarding the matter, she does not harbor any concerns or regrets. Perhaps she represents the perfectionist mentality that existed in the Schlorp family but that the family has either forgotten about or chosen to ignore.
