Today, Thursday, the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity signed a five-year memorandum of understanding with the American company General Electric, which includes several projects.

The Iraqi government said in a statement that “the memorandum included several main axes that will promote the development of the electrical system in manufacturing, increase its efficiency, transportation, maintenance, training of personnel and reduce carbon emissions to support the energy transition. in Iraq.”

“The government is serious about supporting the energy file and giving full support to the Ministry of Electricity to improve the level of production and maintenance of stations in a way that contributes to solving the problem of electricity and alleviating the suffering of the population. citizens,” the statement said, referring to Prime Minister Muhammad al-Sudani.

He continued: “In light of the memorandum, long-term maintenance work will be concluded for a period of five years to maintain the operation of the units that have been equipped by the company, in addition to improving the efficiency of the units currently operating by upgrading the systems connected to them and creating new power generation stations.

The statement stated that “the memorandum also provided for conducting studies on the exploitation of associated gas and the implementation of a number of secondary stations with a capacity of 400 and 133 kV with their connection in various governorates of Iraq, as well as the creation of a center for monitoring the performance and operation of generating units, as well as the creation training center for personnel working in the Ministry of Electricity. to develop their technical capabilities.
