Israel Aims to Establish Regional Free Trade Agreement with Arab Countries
Introduction
The Israeli government is actively pursuing a regional free trade agreement with Arab countries, as reported by The Jerusalem Post. This development comes after Israel’s participation in an economic conference in Bahrain under the “N7” initiative.
Current Trade Agreements
While Israel has established several bilateral trade agreements with countries in the region, there are currently no regional trade agreements that include Israel, according to William Wexler, senior director of the N7 project.
The N7 Initiative
The N7 initiative aims to foster a loose regional agreement between Israel and its Arab neighbors, starting with a trilateral agreement involving the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. It is a project focused on expanding economic and trade cooperation among Middle Eastern countries.
Objective of N7
The primary objective of the N7 project is to facilitate high-level conferences between Israel and Arab countries in order to accelerate joint cooperation and strengthen economic ties in the Middle East.
Normalization of Relations
In 2020, four Arab countries, namely the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco, signed agreements to normalize relations with Israel.
