Spanish coach Xavi Hernandez praises Sergio Ramos despite own goal

Xavi Hernandez, the head coach of FC Barcelona, recently made a surprising statement about the own goal scored by Sevilla player Sergio Ramos during their match in the league. Despite the own goal, Barcelona secured victory with an unanswered goal, temporarily placing them at the top of the La Liga standings with 20 points. This win came just before their upcoming Champions League match against Porto.

Xavi’s surprising comments on Ramos

In a press conference after the match, Xavi expressed his thoughts on Ramos, saying, “Football is unpredictable, and Sergio’s own goal today was unexpected. However, he is still playing at a high level, and I believe he is a fantastic defender. He has the qualities to continue performing at the top level, and I wish him all the best. Despite the own goal, he played a great game, and I have a lot of respect for him.”

Highlighting Ramos’ ability to thrive under pressure, Xavi added, “What happened was unfortunate, but I think he had a great performance overall.”

Praising his own team’s performance, Xavi stated, “We played well and attacked effectively. The only thing missing was a goal. I am satisfied with our performance, and I consider it one of our best matches. We created many opportunities against a strong Sevilla team, who are the Europa League champions.”

Reflecting on a previous match result, Xavi mentioned, “The result in Mallorca was not ideal, but it was not a major setback. We just need to be more effective in our finishing.”
