France and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry commented on Liverpool’s heavy 5-2 defeat to Real Madrid yesterday, Tuesday, in the first leg of the 1/8 finals of the Champions League.
Henry said in statements published by the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo: “Liverpool conceded many goals against Brentford, Wolves and Brighton (in the league), then against Real Madrid.”
He added: “I saw a weak team against Real Madrid. They were leading 2-0. This is exactly the start that any team wants against Real Madrid.
He continued, “However, they didn’t stick together, the team looked fragile. Some things need to change.”
And he continued: “I don’t think Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool manager) should leave, but the level of some players is no longer up to the level of a team the size of Liverpool.
He concluded, “It’s happening for the best, it happened to me too, it’s the end of an era.”
Real Madrid, having beaten Liverpool, took a giant step towards reaching the quarter-finals and continued their title defense campaign before hosting the Reds in the second leg three weeks later.
