Switzerland’s Gianni Infantino, president of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA), said that Argentina had filed an official bid to host the FIFA U-20 World Cup after the organization’s withdrawal from Indonesia.

In an official announcement last Wednesday, FIFA stripped Indonesia of its right to host the Under-20 World Cup after an Indonesian official objected to Israel’s participation in the tournament.

FIFA indicated that “the new host will be announced as soon as possible and the dates of the tournament remain unchanged at this time” as the World Cup is due to start on May 20, 2023.

“We all know Argentine football and it certainly can host a tournament of this level,” Infantino said at a press conference in Paraguay, where he will take part in the annual meeting of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) scheduled for Friday.

He added: “There are other countries that have also expressed their interest, but as a candidate with state guarantees and other details, and therefore Argentina is the first and we will make a decision within a maximum of 3 days.”

The teams that have qualified for the 2023 FIFA World Youth Championship are listed below:
