Last Sunday, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, appeared in the stands of one of the sandy courts of Roland Garros to watch the matches of the French Open tennis championship, the second of four major tournaments.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani attracted attention with his characteristic sporty appearance, as he was dressed in white sportswear, a lead hat and sunglasses.

Some have suggested that the Emir of Qatar was present at the match between Serbian star Novak Djokovic and Peruvian Juan Pablo Frilas, which ended in an unanswered victory of the former in three sets.

There were four men’s singles matches on this day:

Karen Khachanov (RUSSIA) – Lorenzo Sonego (Italy) – (3-1)

Novak Djokovic (Serbia) – Juan Pablo Varelas (Peru) – (3-0)

Carlos Alcaraz (Spain – Lorenzo Musetti (Italy) – (3:0)

Sebastian Offner (Austria) – Stefanos Tsistipas (Greece) – (0:3)

Four more matches took place, but already in the women’s singles, namely:

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUSSIA) – Elise Mertens (Belgium) – (2-1)

Karolina Muchova (Czech Republic) – Elena Agnesyan (Russia) – (2-0)

Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) – Daria Kasatkina (Russia) – (2-0)

Sloan Stevens (USA) – Arina Sobolenko (Belarus) (0-2).

The Emir of Qatar has previously expressed his love for tennis and has attended many of its competitions in and outside Qatar.

Notably, Qatar hosts tennis tournaments every year, most notably the Qatar Women’s Open and the ExxonMobil Men’s Open.
