Real Madrid announced today, Saturday, the departure of their Spanish international star Marco Asensio at the end of his contract on June 30, as the two sides failed to reach an agreement on an extension.

The Royal Club said in a statement: “The club expresses its gratitude and affection to Marco Asensio, the player who has defended our slogan and shirt for 7 seasons.”

He added: “He came to Real Madrid when he was only 20 years old and managed to go down in the history of our club as part of a team that witnessed one of our most successful periods.”

And he continued: “Marco Asensio won 17 titles with us, including 3 European Champions League titles, 4 club world championships, 3 European Super Cups, 3 Spanish titles, in addition to one title in the Royal Spanish Cup and 3 Spanish Super Cups.”

Real Madrid concluded: “Real Madrid fans will not forget his career and his exemplary behavior throughout this time. The club has been and always will be his home and wishes him and his family every success in the new phase.”
