American Falls Short of Breaking Sausage-Eating Record, Settles for Consuming 62 Pieces

New York, July 4 – American Joey “Jaws” Chestnut failed to break his own world record hot dog-eating contest, swallowing just 62 in ten minutes, according to the New York Post.
Chestnut was unable to break the record it set in 2021 of 76 hot dogs. He won the competition in 2007, 2009, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.

In the women’s competition, New Yorker Mickey Sudo won with 39 and a half hot dogs. She became the winner for the ninth time, but could not beat her own record. In 2020, I ate 48 and a half hot dogs.
The famous Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is held annually in New York City on July 4, US Independence Day. The first sausage-eating contest was held in 1916 when Irishman Jim Mullen ate 13 sausages in 12 minutes. Allegedly, he did it boldly. Since then, the competition has not only been held during World War II.
Competitors usually soak separate rolls of sausage in cardboard cups with water, then press the crumb so that it takes up less space, and send it into the mouth. Sausages are consumed separately.
In 2011, the organizers decided to hold a separate tournament for women, as the competition began to gain popularity among women as well.
As reported by the media, the winner in each category wins ten thousand dollars. The second place gets five thousand dollars, the third place – 2.5 thousand, the fourth – one and a half thousand, the fifth – one thousand dollars.
