The current President of the Maldives recognizes opposition candidate’s victory in presidential elections
The President of the Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, has acknowledged the victory of his opponent, Mohamed Moisa, in the second round of the presidential elections in the island nation.

President Solih expressed his congratulations to Mohamed Moisa, the winner of the presidential elections, on his social media page “X.” The Maldivian Foreign Minister, Abdullah Shahid, also congratulated Moisa on his victory.
Results of the second round
The second round of voting in the Maldives took place on Saturday, with preliminary results published by local news portal Dhauru. According to these results, Mohamed Moisa received 53.8% of the votes, while Ibrahim Mohamed Solih received 46.2%. The election saw a high turnout, with over 241,000 people casting their votes and a participation rate exceeding 85%.
Previous round and background
The first round of presidential elections in the Maldives occurred on September 10. However, none of the main candidates were able to secure more than 50% of the votes.
