Elon Musk and German Foreign Ministry Debate Berlin’s Support for Migrant Rescues
Introduction
American businessman Elon Musk and the German Foreign Ministry engaged in a heated discussion on the X Network regarding Berlin’s measures to support non-governmental organizations rescuing migrants in the Mediterranean.
Musk Questions German Support
Musk expressed his doubts about the majority of German citizens supporting these measures. He shared a video from Radio Genoa, which highlighted eight German non-governmental organization ships operating in the Mediterranean Sea, rescuing migrants and transporting them to Italy. The radio report also mentioned that these organizations received financial assistance from the German government.
“Does the German public know about this?” asked Musk skeptically.
German Foreign Ministry Response
The German Foreign Ministry responded to Musk’s comments, stating that the German public is well aware of these activities and considers them as “saving lives.”
Musk reacted by saying, “So, you’re actually proud of it. How interesting. Honestly, I doubt that most of the German public supports this behavior. Have you conducted a public opinion poll on this?”
Increasing Migration Crisis in Italy
Italy is currently facing a new surge in migration, with over 8,000 migrants arriving on the Italian island of Lampedusa in just three days during September. It is worth noting that Lampedusa has a population of less than 6,000 people.
