MOSCOW, June 19 – Experts told how the issuance of national visas will change in EU countries, ATOR reports.
The EU authorities have decided that not only Schengen visas will be digital, but also those that tourists can obtain to visit Cyprus, Bulgaria and Romania. True, changes will not happen quickly – as in the case of Schengen, the transition will take at least seven years.
In addition, long-term visas required by applicants for study, medical treatment and family reunification will become electronic.
As with short-term entry permits, travelers will be able to apply and pay consular fees online, and application progress will be monitored on a special platform. Diplomats will replace the paper sticker in the passport with a barcode.
Last week, the European Union Parliament and the Council of the European Union approved a new provision to introduce a digital Schengen. The approved regulations provide for two main points: the ability to apply for a visa via the Internet, as well as the replacement of the currently used paper visa sticker with a digital one in the form of a two-dimensional bar code with an encrypted signature.
The proposed initiatives should make it easier to obtain entry permits and improve security within the European space, for example by reducing the risk of fraudulent entry permits.
