German sappers successfully defused a British World War II bomb in Hanau, near Frankfurt.
A spokesman announced the reopening of the restricted area earlier in the day, indicating that residents could return to their homes.
About 17,000 people were previously forced to leave their homes due to the explosion of a 500-kilogram bomb in an area located northwest of these houses.
The bomb was discovered last Thursday during construction work.
