The Israeli Defense Ministry has denied press reports about sending Israeli Merkava tanks to Ukraine.
A ministry statement in response to recent media reports said: “Reports of Israeli tanks being transferred to Ukraine are false and due to the war in Europe, several countries have expressed interest in receiving Merkava tanks from the IDF reserves. Negotiations have not yet led to an agreement, as it is awaiting the approval of the Ministry of Defense and interested countries.
Yedioth Ahronoth reported last week, citing Israeli Defense Ministry officials, that Israel was in talks with two countries, one of which is on the European continent, to send more than 200 previous-generation Merkava tanks that have been retired.
The newspaper pointed out that the negotiations are taking place against the backdrop of an increase in demand for Israeli military equipment due to the depletion of its arsenals by Western countries providing military assistance to Ukraine.
