Israel to Resume Construction of Wind Turbines in the Golan Heights

Israel has announced plans to restart the construction of wind turbines in the Golan Heights after facing protests from local residents about a month ago. The demonstrations were sparked by the installation of turbines near their lands, which forced the authorities to disperse the protesters by using force.

Efforts Led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

According to Israel Radio, the decision to resume construction of the turbines is being led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. These turbines are fan devices that convert wind kinetic energy into clean electrical energy for the environment.

Settlement Attempt with Druze Community

The resumption of work will involve the construction of eight turbines, which will be located away from the Al Qura area. This move is part of an attempt to reach a settlement with the Druze community.

Disputes and Police Intervention

The initial installation of turbines near the residents’ lands led to widespread demonstrations, which were forcefully dispersed by the police. Negotiations for a settlement between the Israeli government and the Druze community have since stalled.

Operational Considerations and Police Involvement

Work will only resume subject to police operational considerations. The decision follows an attempt to seize a police station in the city of Masada by members of the Druze community, prompting the police to issue a statement calling for calm.
