The Israeli Opposition Criticizes National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir After Fatal Shooting in Haifa

The Israeli opposition has launched a scathing attack on National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir following a fatal shooting that occurred in broad daylight on a road in Haifa today.

Calls for Action

National Unity leader Benny Gantz expressed his concern, stating, “Today’s murder in Haifa, in the middle of the main road and in broad daylight, highlights the severity of negligence, the extent of the problem, and the inadequacy of the response. The current government, which appointed Ben-Gvir, seems more focused on provoking than on saving lives. They are simply unfit to address this issue, and the Prime Minister should not only dismiss Ben-Gvir for his actions but primarily for his negligence.”

Yesh Atid MK Ron Katz shared similar sentiments, declaring, “A man was killed this morning in the north of the country, while an unemployed minister is preoccupied with interviews, TikTok videos, and planning divisive prayers. In any other country, this would be unacceptable. How can there be no consequences for failure in the State of Israel?”

Responsibility and Accountability

Many believe that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu bears responsibility for this situation, a sentiment echoed by Knesset member Yifat Shasha-Biton of the National Unity Party. Shasha-Biton emphasized the need for action, stating, “We cannot address this issue with mere tweets. It is time to take real action. There is a lack of control, security, an increasing number of victims and crimes, and no sign of improvement. Darkness has engulfed us.”

Shasha-Biton further added, “Israeli citizens live in fear under Netanyahu’s rule. We must hold the appointed minister accountable, who seems to suffer from delusions of grandeur and is more focused on intimidating others. As a leader, the responsibility falls on you.”
