Lithuanian man caught attempting to smuggle 10,000 rounds of ammunition into Belarus

A source in the press center of the Belarusian Border Service said that a Lithuanian citizen tried to smuggle 10 thousand rounds of ammunition into the territory of the republic.

According to the source, the accident occurred on June 2, and the culprit was a 26-year-old man heading to Belarus through the Lusha checkpoint on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border.

The source said: “The car in which the Lithuanian arrived was equipped with two private caches in which Belarusian border guards found ammunition for firearms: 10,000 Lapua brand rounds, as well as 2,525 Lapua Magnum rounds. The ammunition was seized and sent for examination.”

The source stated that the competent Belarusian authorities had launched an investigation into the incident and emphasized that attempts to smuggle arms and ammunition across the border are a crime punishable by up to seven years in prison.
