French President Emmanuel Macron, in a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky, expressed support for Ukraine on the eve of the NATO summit, which will be held in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius on July 11-12.

And a statement from the French Presidency on Tuesday said that “the President of the Republic reiterated his hope that the summit will make progress in relations between Ukraine and NATO, and that this will be an occasion for allies to provide sustained support to Ukraine in terms of security,” reports Agence France Presse. The two presidents also discussed the military situation in Ukraine and military support for France, according to the Elysee Palace.

In turn, the Ukrainian president said in a message on Telegram that he had discussed “the situation in Russia and on the battlefield” with Macron, adding that “we must act decisively, whether militarily or politically.”

“Therefore, it is very important that the summit in Vilnius be fruitful,” Zelensky added.

It is noteworthy that Ukraine during the Vilnius summit called on NATO to take “decisive steps” regarding the expression of support for Ukraine and the prospects for its entry into the alliance, and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg considered Ukraine’s membership impossible as long as the conflict on its territory continues.
