Israel’s Defense Ministry announced Wednesday that it had foiled an attempt to smuggle weapons hidden in furniture shipped from the Gaza Strip to the West Bank.
The ministry said in a statement: “The security forces of the Israeli Ministry of Defense today (Wednesday, May 3, 2023) prevented an attempt to smuggle firearms, silencers and ammunition on the way from the Gaza Strip to the West Bank.”
The statement added: “The shipment of furniture from Gaza to the West Bank aroused the suspicions of the guards, and a close search revealed various types of firearms hidden inside the furniture, in addition to loaded cartridges and silencers, which were also confiscated.”
The statement added: “According to preliminary estimates, the weapons were sent for ‘terrorist’ purposes to the West Bank and handed over to security forces for further study.
