Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles said that more than a thousand Ukrainian soldiers are undergoing military training on Spanish soil, stressing that Madrid will not stop supporting Kyiv.
Robles added during a press conference with her Ukrainian counterpart Oleksiy Reznikov, saying, “We will continue training the Ukrainian forces and we have completed the training of 1,000 Ukrainian recruits in Spain and we have begun training a new group consisting of the same number.”
Robles confirmed that Ukraine will receive 6 Spanish Leopard 2A4 tanks and 20 armored personnel carriers provided by Spain at the end of this month.
In early April, Robles attended a graduation ceremony for nearly 200 Ukrainian soldiers trained at the Toledo Infantry Academy.
Previously, Spain stated that it has the ability to annually train 2,000 Ukrainian military in 5 areas: basic training of fighters, shooting training, combat training in populated areas, first aid, work with explosive devices and mines.
For its part, the Russian Foreign Ministry regarded the supply of weapons by NATO countries to Ukraine as “playing with fire”, incitement that fuels the crisis, undermines the chances for peace and could lead to the outbreak of a nuclear war.
