Milley’s Statement

During an interview with CNN, Milley expressed his concern about the possibility of a conflict with China. He reminded the public that the United States has already experienced two major wars, referring to World Wars I and II, and stressed that a similar conflict with China should not occur.

However, Milley assured that if China were to invade Taiwan, the United States would be prepared to defend against it. He also reiterated America’s desire for a peaceful resolution to the tensions between China and Taiwan.

Taiwan Issue as a Red Line

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the sensitivity of the Taiwan issue during discussions with US national security adviser Jake Sullivan. He stated that the Taiwan matter is a red line in the relations between Washington and Beijing, which should not be crossed.

Minister Wang Yi further emphasized that the United States must adhere to the three Sino-US joint communiqués and honor its commitment not to support Taiwanese independence.

US Support for Taiwan

Chairman Milley affirmed his continued support for bilateral agreements with Taiwan, including those related to safeguards. He emphasized that the United States has the capability to prevent any potential attack on Taiwan.

While expressing the desire for peaceful relations between China and Taiwan, Milley warned against the strategic mistake China would make if it were to attack or take over Taiwan.
