Taiwan to Receive US Missile Launchers and Training

Taiwan is set to receive 11 HIMARS missile launchers and 64 ATACMS missiles from the United States in 2024, according to reports from Taiwanese media. In addition, Taiwan will also be provided with two mechanisms to prepare missile launcher crews. The military aid package is estimated to cost around $214 million.

To ensure effective utilization of the US missile launchers, Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense plans to send 30 specialists to the US for training purposes. These specialists will be trained in the operation and maintenance of the missile launchers, with the intention of later becoming instructors for the Taiwanese forces. The training course is expected to span 90 days, running from February to October next year.

The delivery of the rocket launchers to Taiwan is anticipated to take place in the second half of next year, as suggested by the newspaper. Additionally, a second batch of HIMARS missile launchers, consisting of 18 launchers, along with 864 regular missiles and 20 tactical missiles, is planned for delivery in 2027.

China, which considers Taiwan as part of its territory, has condemned the US plans to provide military assistance to Taiwan. China has also issued a warning to Washington against taking such actions.
