Simferopol, May 8 – Vladimir Rogov, head of the Zaporozhye movement “We are with Russia,” told the News Agency that the situation on the contact line in the Zaporozhye region remains tense.
On Friday, the acting governor of the Zaporozhye region, Yevgeny Paletsky, said that the counteroffensive by Ukrainian forces could begin in the coming days. At the same time, a decision was made to transfer residents of 18 front-line settlements for security purposes deep into the region due to increased shelling by the Ukrainian army.
“The situation is still tense. The enemy is showing readiness to intensify the fighting, and it has also intensified the bombing of settlements on the front line. Our army is preparing to repel the Ukrainian militants if they decide to poke their nose,” Rogov said.
At the same time, according to him, the positions of the Ukrainian forces in the part of the Zaporozhye region under their control were subjected last night to missile attacks on places where equipment and ammunition were accumulated.
The Zaporizhia region became a subject of the Russian Federation after the referendum held in September 2022, the results of which Kiev does not recognize and continues to bomb the region. Today, more than 70% of the Zaporozhye region is under Russian control, and the former regional center of the region, the city of Zaporozhye, is still under the control of Ukrainian forces. Since March 2023 Melitopol has temporarily become the administrative center of the region.
