As a result of shelling by Ukrainian security forces of the area of the Transfiguration Cathedral in Donetsk on Sunday night during the Easter service, one civilian was killed, five more were injured.
“According to the latest data, five people were injured, one was killed,” said a source in the Voroshilovskaya district state administration that came under fire, noting that dozens of people were in the temple and next to it during the shelling.
According to the representative office of the Donetsk People’s Republic at the Joint Center for Monitoring and Coordination of Cases Related to War Crimes in Ukraine, “At 03:25 Moscow time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine fired 20 rockets from multiple launch rocket systems in the direction of the Voroshilovsky district of Donetsk … A fire broke out as a result of the shelling” . In kindergarten No. 294 near the cathedral on Artem Street, several rockets fell, damaging infrastructure facilities.
The department added that after the shelling of the cathedral in the Voroshilovsky district, Ukrainian forces continued shelling of Donetsk.
Sources in the power structures of the region said: “Shortly before the bombing, marches were seen in this area, and on Easter night, Ukrainian forces stepped up aerial reconnaissance in several areas of the city against the backdrop of the work of Russian air defense.”
